VISUALIZING WEALTH INEQUALITY

As coronavirus causes the most of the US to skid toward recession, Jeff Bezos’ fortune has only grown: to $139 billion (!)

A number impossible to fathom – until now (sort of).

Web developer Matt Korostoff created an incredible visualization of Jeff Bezos’ wealth – a simple, but astonishing, graphic which lays bare just how egregious wealth inequality really is.

Korostoff figured out a way to make something incomprehensible—the real scale of billions and billions of dollars—exhaustingly comprehensible through the physical activity of scrolling.

And he doesn’t stop with Bezos.  He goes on to visualize the $3 TRILLION dollars owned by the top 400 earners – a number so abstract, as Korostoff says, you “might as well say ‘eleventy gajillion zillion dollars.’”

Try not to get too angry as you scroll… and scroll […and scroll]…
